Terminalia richii : ウィキペディア英語版 | Terminalia richii
''Terminalia richii'', also known as Malili, is an upright forest tree which grows in a variety of elevations but is usually found in both lower montane forests and lowland rainforests.〔Elevitch, Craig R. Traditional Trees of Pacific Islands: Their Culture, Environment, and Use. PAR, 2006. 748-755. Web. 〕 Malili is usually distinguished from other trees because it emerges from the rainforest canopies with a height ranging from 25 to 35 meters. The wood grown on this tree can be used for numerous purposes (mainly for construction and timber).〔 == Distribution == ''Terminalia richii'' is an endangered species found in lowland areas and lower montane forests. It can grow in a variety of elevations, ranging up to 830 meters. The Malili is native to Samoa and American Samoa, known as the Samoan archipelago. In addition, the tree was also found in the central South Pacific in Niue, but is now extinct in that area. Malili was not very frequent in Samoa to begin with.〔"Malili (Terminalia richii)." Samoa Biodiversity. N.p., 2003. Web. 2 Jul 2012. 〕 Because of agricultural activities and numerous cyclones, the population of Malili has declined dramatically, making it endangered. Numbers have decreased the most in Upolu, an island in the Samoan archipelago.〔
